Oil and gas group publicizes its side of story via Web site
The Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York is launching a blog in response to concerns in the community about potential natural gas drilling, specifically the Marcellus Shale in the Southern Tier and Catskill regions. The site provides details about the drilling process, leasing, links to other relevant sites and a section for comments.
“Our goal is to help clarify misconceptions and provide accurate information on the natural gas exploration process,” said Brad Gill, head of the trade association. ”The fact is natural gas exploration is not new to New York. Our member companies have been drilling here for over one hundred years and have an exceptional track record on environmental compliance and safety standards.”
Currently New York imports 95 percent of its natural gas from other states. At a time when New York is having economic difficulties, exploration will lead to more economic development and jobs, Gill said.
Last month, the state started a Web page on the Marcellus Shale in response to concerns about drilling.
