Kuhl Hits Massa Over Rangel Ties

September
12

Rep. Randy Kuhl today continued the assault by Republicans over Democratic candidates’ ties to embattled Rep. Charlie Rangel, saying Rangel is one of his opponent’s biggest campaign contributors.

“From violating election laws to admitting to federal tax evasion, New York Congressman Charlie Rangel has personified congressional sleaze,” Kuhl said. “Even though Mr. Rangel has broken federal and state laws, Eric Massa continues to rake in tainted campaign contributions from him to the tune of nearly $66,000. In fact, Rangel is one of Mr. Massa’s biggest campaign contributors.”

Kuhl called on Massa to return the money, which Massa has yet to do.

The attack on Massa is illustrative of what Democrats and Republicans have said behind the scene about Kuhl: He is more aggressive in this campaign than he was in 2004 and 2006.

“How many scandals can Charlie Rangel have before Eric Massa stops taking his money?,” Kuhl continued. “Apparently three separate scandals and three congressional ethical investigations in the span of three months isn’t enough.”

Excellent point, Mr. Spector. Massa never lets a day go by without saying Randy should return money from “Big Oil” and anyone that has anything to do with gasoline, where they haven’t done anything illegal. The important distinction here is that Charlie Randy is the Chairman of the Tax-Writing Committee and he’s a tax evader! If he did it on purpose, he’s incredibly brazen. If he did it ‘by accident’ then he’s incredibly stupid. He’s also said publicly he’s for huge tax increases (of course he is, since ‘someonone’ isn’t paying them) and for not allowing businesses who locate off-shore to shelter themselves from U.S. taxes, yet that’s exactly what he did with his vacation home in the Carribbean. It’s amazing that the Dems let him stay in the Ways and Means Chair, but even more so that Massa continues to be close to him having taken in almost $66k and a fundraiser in NYC with him coming up on October 6. If he was smart, he’d return the money to the US treasury to make up for Rangel’s evasion, and refuse any money from the NY fundraiser. But I doubt he’d do that.
