Looking for optimists about the national economy? Then look somewhere else than New York.
Fifty-two percent of those polled by the Siena Research Institute said the country’s best days are over and that the next generation will have to accept a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed. Forty percent said the country will rebound, according to the survey, which was released today.
One of every three residents, and 13 percent of retirees, have sought overtime or another job in the last six months, according to the poll.
“With nearly three New Yorkers saying they are worse off today to every one that feels better financially than they were a year ago, it is o wonder that a majority of state residents doubt the strength of our country’s economy,’’ said poll director Dan Levy.
The telephone poll, taken Aug. 27-Sept. 7, interviewed 513 people. It has an error margin of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
