Asssemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, after his primary win was able to take on his foes who tried to oust him by releasing damaging emails over his rendezvous with an intern several years ago.

He said voters said “No, to the politics of personal destruction,” and said that “We made it through this and there is no dragon we can not slay.”

The reference could be viewed as a shot to Responsible New York and its co-chairman Steve Pigeon, who led a campaign against Hoyt and who was accused by the campaign as leading the smear attack.

Hoyt said voters choose “substance over smear.”
