Senate Coming Back August 8

The state Senate officially announced today that it will come back Aug. 8 to approve the governor’s property-tax cap.
We wrote last week that they were targeting that day, even though it’s a little strange to have them return to session on a Friday.
So Senate Republicans will pass the tax cap and also do some appointments, including naming Sen. John Sabini, D-Queens to chair the state’s Racing and Wagering Board. The appointment means Sabini will leave the Legislature, giving the Republicans back its two-seat majority after Sen. Joseph Bruno’s resignation earlier this month.
Senate Democrats, meanwhile, are expected to push for their own property-tax relief plan, which includes a cap, a circuit-breaker and mandate relief. Sen. Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, has proposed the measures.
