Massa, Maffei, Powers Pow-Wow

July
16

Democratic congressional candidates Jon Powers (NY-26), Eric Massa (NY-29) and Dan Maffei (NY-25) will be together 10 a.m. Thursday at Greece Arcadia High School, 120 Island Cottage Rd., to “discuss the need to create needed public service jobs with good benefits and increase service programs and professions in Western New York.”

So here’s an opportunity to look at the fundraising for the quarter in those three races. (Maffei, left, and Massa, right, are seen with Bill Clinton during a rally just before the 2006 elections.)

25th District (Syracuse to Webster)
Maffei raised about $470,000 over the last three months, giving him about $950,000 on-hand .The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee mocked Republican candidate Dale Sweetland with the headline “Fundraising Not So Sweet In Sweet-Land” because Sweetland filed with a paltry $107,000 on hand.

29th District (Southern Tier To Brighton)
Republican Rep. Randy Kuhl raised more than $333,000 and had $618,564 on hand, which is shockingly his best quarterly numbers.
Massa, raised more than $290,000 and has $652,000 on hand.

26th District (Buffalo suburbs to western Rochester suburbs)
Real Clear Politics has a good breakdown:

“Powers raised $272,000 and had $489,000 on hand. Attorney Alice Kryzan pulled in $69,000 and still has $247,000 in the bank, while 2004 and 2006 nominee Jack Davis hasn’t raised a dime since kicking off his campaign but loaned himself $35,000.
Businessman Chris Lee has the Republican field to himself for now, and has raised $351,000 in his first quarter. Added to a $320,000 loan and Lee has $636,000 in the bank, a nice head start especially if Democrats are forced to deplete their warchests.”

I don’t understand how Powers gets away with saying he is going to “lead by example” when the majority of his funds come from D.C. and downstate. It’s unbelievable that no one talks about it. At least Jack Davis has 100% of his money from ny26.
