Yes, there was a misunderstanding

And now one more word from Sen. Darryl Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, on whether he was indeed offered a job as president of the state Power Authority by Gov. David Paterson:
“If there was a misunderstanding, there was a misunderstanding,’’ he said today, declining to comment further, obviously eager to put the story behind him.
He said yesterday he had been offered the job by Paterson’s top aide, Charles O’Byrne, but had turned it down, even though it pays more than double what he makes now.
His assertion caused a stir since getting him out of the Senate would make the Democrats’ chances of taking control of the Senate in this year’s elections more difficult. That seemed like the opposite of what Paterson would want to do.
Later Monday, Paterson denied Aubertine had been offered the job, saying there must have been a “misunderstanding.’’
The incident reinforced the impression of some that Paterson is so eager to avoid conflicts that sometimes he confuses people.
