Daniel Wiese, a central figure in the ongoing probe of corruption at the State Police, was fired Friday by the state Power Authority.
Wiese, of Garrison, Putnam County, served as the authority’s inspector general and is a former state trooper with close ties to former Govs. George Pataki and Eliot Spitzer.
“Mr. Daniel Wiese’s employment with the New York Power Authority was terminated effective the close of business today. We will have no further comment,” a statement from the authority reads.
Wiese wrote a scathing letter to the authority earlier this week, threatening a lawsuit and questioning their move to put him on unpaid leave amid allegations that he was behind efforts by State Police to smear political foes.
Wiese said in a statement this afternoon that he had not been notified of his termination.
“I have not received official notice from NYPA of my termination,” he said. ” If true, I’m certainly disappointed. As I stated in my letter to the NYPA board, I feel that I have been treated unfairly based on unsubstantiated accusations. In the coming days, I will review my legal rights and options with my attorney.”
