Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno issued a statement sending his well wishes to Gov. David Paterson, who was admitted to a hospital today (his birthday) because he was suffering from migraine-like symptoms. Bruno, R-Brunswick, Rensselaer County, would take over leadership of the state if Paterson were incapacitated. Paterson was lieutenant governor and was elevated to the state’s top job after Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace two months ago. This is Bruno’s statement:
Earlier this morning, I was informed by Governor David Paterson’s staff that he had checked himself into the hospital to undergo medical tests, but that he was resting comfortably and doing fine. I know David to be in great physical shape, and am impressed by his stamina and ability, and expect that he will soon return to his desk.I have offered to be as helpful as I can to the Governor and his staff, and stressed that I will do whatever is necessary and appropriate given the circumstances. I expect to speak with the Governor this afternoon so we can continue to discuss ongoing State business.
I know that Governor Paterson would rather not spend his birthday in the hospital, and I join all New Yorkers in wishing the Governor good health and a happy birthday.
