Pork On The Rise For Potential Bruno Successors
Long Island Sen. Dean Skelos, viewed as a potential successor to Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, is already seeing benefits from the possibility of leading a coup against Bruno.
Skelos, on left, saw a whooping 70 percent increase in member-item spending from last year to this year, a increase of more than $1.5 million,
according to the New York Public Interest Research Group.
Another potential successor to Bruno, Binghamton Sen. Thomas Libous, on right had the second highest jump on the Republican side, a cozy 52 percent increase in member-item money.
An increase in money for hometown projects is one way to keep potential successors happy with their current boss. Bruno, meanwhile didn’t do bad himself, seeing his Senate-leading pork rise to $4.2 million—a 38 percent increase from the prior year.
