Chief Judge To Sue For Pay Raises

April
10

Chief Judge Judith Kaye is filing a lawsuit today because of the state’s failure to give pay raises to judges.

Kaye has warned that if the pay raises were not included in the budget, she would sue on behalf of the roughly 1,250 state-level judges who have not had a raise in 10 years.

The lawsuit is expected to be filed at 1 p.m. today in state Supreme Court in Manhattan.

Kaye wants the current average salary of state Supreme Court judges to be raised from $136,700 to least $165,200, which is what federal district-court judges get paid and has long been the benchmark.

The state ranks second to last in the country for judicial raises.
