Suozzi: I’m Not Running For Governor

April

suozzi.jpgA few stories today about Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi—here and here—about him potentially running for governor again in 2010. But he said this morning, he’s not doing it.

“I am not running for governor against David Paterson,” Suozzi said this morning on Fred Dicker’s radio show in Albany. “He is my candidate. I support the governor. ”

Suozzi was crushed by Eliot Spitzer in the 2006 Democratic primary but has made a mends with state Democrats after his defeat. In fact, Spitzer named him chairman of his property tax cap commission, looking at whether to establish a cap on school property taxes.

“I am going to do everything I can to help him succeed,” Suozzi said of Paterson.

To that point, Suozzi’s chief counsel Bill Cunningham is set to join the Paterson administration in a similar role, Suozzi said. The appointment is expected to be announced today.
