Gov. David Paterson said he stayed in downtown Albany hotels on a number of occasions while he was lieutentant governor to “accomodate the governor,’’ he said today.
“When we had early-morning meetings or press conferences, I don’t know, 10 or 15 times,’’ he said at a news conference in Manhattan this morning, “I actually stayed in hotels in Albany to accommodate the governor.’’
Paterson, who last week admitted several instances of marital infidelities, owns a home in the Albany suburb of Guilderland, about a 15 or 20-minute trip from the Capitol. But he said that was too far away to get to some early-morning events. He has said the affairs stopped several years ago.
The New York Post reported today that Paterson spent more than $2,500 in taxpayer money on hotel bills in Albany since he became lieutenant governor in January of 2007.
