State already has processed 350,000 tax returns

February

Haven’t done your taxes yet? Then you’re behind 350,000 New Yorkers who already have, said Tax Commissioner Robert Megna told lawmakers today.

And he said those early birds have shared about $297 million in tax refunds.

By the April 15 filing deadline, he said the state expects to have received 10.3 million tax returns. Eventually, the state will send out about $1.5 billion in refunds. If you wait to the last minute, your refund could take as long as six weeks to be delivered.

And he said not to worry. Even if the state’s financial situation continues to deteriorate, the money for refunds has already been set aside.
