State Police today said that in 2007 they issued more than 1 million tickets for the first time.
The 2007 ticket data, according to police, indicate that of the 1,019,000 tickets issued, nearly half were for what troopers consider priority offenses: failure to wear safety restraints, speeding or DWI.
“Speeding, drunk driving, and not buckling up continue to be the most prevalent threats to traffic safety, and our troopers too often witness their devastating effects,” said Police Superintendent Preston Felton. “I’m confident that the traffic enforcement efforts of our troopers in 2007 have saved numerous lives.”
