More bad poll numbers for Spitzer

December
10

Gov.  Eliot Spitzer’s poll numbers continue to sink, with a new Siena College poll released today showing his worst numbers ever.

Only 36 percent think he’s doing a good job, compared to 51 percent who don’t approve of his performance.

That’s  a startling turn from just three months ago, when his rating 56 percent favorable and 26 percent unfavorable.

It’s stunning compared to February, when a whoping 74 percent of those questioned by Siena pollsters approved of the job Spitzer was doing, compared to only 12 percent who didn’t.

“Voters are continuing to lose faith in their Governor,â€? said Steven Greenberg, Siena New York Poll spokesman.  “Today, a majority of voters have an unfavorable view of Spitzer.  ”Even 61 percent of Democrats view his job performance negatively.â€?

The “Troopergate’’ scandal relating to the use of State Police to gather information on Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Spitzer’s idea to allow illegal immigrants to get drivers’ licenses (an idea since abandoned) have taken their toll.
