Now that Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to give drivers’ licenses to illegal immigrants is dead, opponents of the plan want some loose ends tied up—namely they want the governor to recall about 23,000 licenses issued to legal foreign visitors that did not have a temporary visitor label.

The governor’s popularity dipped to a new low as a result of the drivers’ license controversy, a boon to the Republican Party but the field of potential candidates to replace Spitzer is sparse.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo spoke to a packed house in White Plains last night about potential abuse and fraud, student debt and other issues of concern to the public.

Several State University of New York campuses avoided hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential fines from the federal Environmental Protection Agency by fixing problems on their own.
