There was hope yesterday that Gov. Eliot Spitzer, legislative leaders and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg would reach a deal about permitting the city to charge extra for vehicles traveling into Manhattan business districts during work hours.  Nothing was announced yesterday, but negotiations continue today.

The state is going to be seeking refunds from businesses that accepted tax breaks in exchange for promising to create jobs, but didn’t do so.

The state has started mailing information about how homeowners can apply for property-tax rebates this year.

New York is making $1 million in economic-development funds available to communities within the 6 million-acre Adirondack Park.

As part of an ongoing investigation into possible mishandling of state pension fund investments,  state and Albany County investigators are investigating the demotion of a top deputy during disgraced former state Comptroller Alan Hevesi’s term.

First responders at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks may get improved workers’ compensation benefits. The Senate this week overrode Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s veto of legislation to do that, and the Assembly could do the same when it returns later this year.
