Gov. Eliot Spitzer visited Suffolk County yesterday, where County Executive Steve Levy signed legislation for a non-political commission to redraw district lines. The governor is hoping such local initiatives will spur similar action on the state level.
The governor is considering a plan to close Aqueduct Racetrack and expand Belmont Park on Long Island. Meanwhile, the future of racing at Vernon Downs, near Utica, may be in jeopardy.
The state Public Service Commission has set a goal of reducing electricity usage 15 percent by 2015.
In New York City last night, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani showed his softer side, complimenting U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a GOP rival for president.
In Rochester, seven people have been charged with taking bones, skin and other material from corpses without obtaining consent.
